Azimut Yachts

Founded in Italy by university student Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Yachts was originally a sailing charter business. A year later, Azimut was asked to distribute various prestigious yacht brands in Italy. Azimut quickly expanded beyond distribution and began designing its own new yachts. Partnering with Amerglass, it produced the 43-foot Bali, a fiberglass design, which became a quick success. Today, Azimut boasts one of the most complete and diverse lineups of cruising and luxury yachts from 10 to 100 meters.

Impeccable Standards

The key to Azimut’s success is that it applies some of the world’s highest construction standards to each series of its boats. More importantly, the technologies and innovations applied to its most cutting-edge models are also integrated into its other categories, continually pushing the Azimut innovation envelope forward. Rigid quality control systems are applied not only to the boat overall, but to every system and raw material used. Chemical and physical testing of all incoming resin, gelcoat, fillers and adhesives. Ultrasound and thermographic testing of laminate structures. Testing of the mechanical properties of the various materials it uses with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), a method of predicting how a structure will perform under various loads, vibration, heat, and other conditions. Employing Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) to its end product before de-molding to verify the finished composite material possesses adequate stability. Employing intensive analysis of finished surfaces to ensure the highest aesthetic levels.

Advanced Hull Materials Research

When you build the breadth of products that Azimut does, you are bound to break new ground. One example is the company’s use of its proprietary CFD software, which provides its R&D team with data on the correlations between virtual and tank-tested models. This provides its designers, engineers and craftsmen with technical advantages it feels are unmatched in the industry. For instance, once a hull shape is designed, its structures are developed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). This helps the designers select a mix of materials that produce optimum strength at high stress points while allowing the use of lighter weight materials in others–eliminating the risk of needlessly weighing down the yacht. This practice has also created numerous opportunities to design innovative and unconventional structures that add both aesthetic freedom and space efficiency.
